November 2011

Happy November! I think November is my favorite month of the year. Fall finally has set in and it's cool enough here in Texas to drink a pumpkin spice latte or two. Oh and also, it's my birthday! This year for my birthday, I want EVERYONE to hear my CD, so for the next six days until my birthday on the 19th I am giving it away for FREE! You can download the entire album here. Please tell your friends!

Happy fall and God bless!

If you know me, you know most of this already. If not, thank you for reading and I hope to get to know you soon. Anyway, I am writing to you because I have a story to tell.

I moved to Austin, Texas from Albuquerque, New Mexico as a child. I fought it for a while because I missed home, but I soon fell in love with the culture and the music that surrounded me. I spent my teenage years studying guitar and writing songs, then I began performing when I was fifteen. A few years later I started playing gigs on the road throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. This past January I released my CD, “This One’s For You” and I spent the first part of the spring on the road promoting it.

On April 29th, I played at a festival in east Texas called the Cram Jam, headlined by Jack Ingram, Roger Creager, and many others. As I was heading back to Austin in the early morning hours of April 30th, I was in a serious car accident. We hit two wild hogs on highway 79 and flipped several times. I woke up in a hospital bed in Tyler where I was told that I had broken a vertebrae in my neck and I had severe nerve damage to my right hand, which had been pinned under the car for nearly an hour. My mom was with me, but she sustained only minor injuries.

What I experienced could have been the most difficult time of my life, but the community overwhelmed me with so much love in the first days after the accident that I barely remember the struggles. In June, Cody Canada and friends played a benefit concert for us at Hill’s Cafe. The community of artists, venues, and radio stations came together. We raised some money and we definitely raised some spirits. I spent several months doing rehabilitation and learning to use my right hand again. Every little accomplishment was the greatest feeling in the world.

Over the last six months, music has gone from something I want to do to something I get to do. I have never been more motivated. I have been playing shows again for two months now, and next week I am going on the road for the first time since April. My bass player and I are playing an acoustic tour through West Texas, to New Mexico and back. I have been writing songs that I am pouring my heart and soul into and I am hoping to take them into the studio in the early Spring.

The power of prayer, faith, and music healed me and I want the world to know about it. I have never felt more alive or blessed in my life.

With love,
Arielle Nicole

August 2011

August - how did we already get to August?! This summer has been an adventure, to say the least. Until five days ago, I spent the summer in a neck brace. At least once a week - sometimes twice - I went to occupational therapy to build up strength and regain use of my right hand. I watched as my guitar pick would spin between my fingers as I tried to strum. I have spent weeks playing nothing but scales on my guitar in an effort to build up strength. But I cannot complain. I found an unbelievable beauty in each milestone. The first time I was able to play a song all the way through was a wonderful accomplishment. I found new inspiration for songwriting and a new life in the songs I have already written. I realized that playing music is not something that I want to do, but something that I get to do.

So this begins a new chapter. I have feeling back in all but two fingers of my right hand. My hand is strong and coordinated again. The neck brace is off and I am ready to play. This time I'll give it everything I have, because that's the only way to go.

I'll be playing the last three Sundays of this month at Flipnotics Coffeespace in Austin. My first gig back will be at Flipnotics on Sunday, 8/14 at 6:00. This is going to be an important moment for me, so I would love to share it. I hope you can make it!  Check the calendar for more dates.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. And be a part of this.

Have a blessed day-
Arielle

June 2011

Happy Monday - I hope everyone is having great week so far! Here is a quick update:

By now you may have heard that my mom and I were in a terrible car accident on the way home from a show I played at the Texas Cram Jam on April 30th. In the accident, I broke my neck and injured my right hand. We are both are doing much better now, though I have had to cancel shows from May through July while I recover. Don't worry - I will be back at it soon! Keep an eye out for August/September dates.

In the mean time, some amazing people in the Texas Music community are putting together a benefit concert for us. The event will be at Hill's Cafe in Austin, Texas on Tuesday, June 28th. Artists playing will include Cody Canada, Ryan Beaver, Matt Powell, Bart Crow, Ben Danaher, Zack Walther, Bri Bagwell and more, including some special guests! The show will be from 6-10pm and there will be silent auction and raffle items. There is a $10 suggested donation at the door. Come celebrate life with me!

God bless,

Arielle Nicole
